So, something resembling a real post:
Thanks to cielf. She knows what for.
4-year-old birthday today. Good day all 'round. Kids had the day off school (purely coincidentally), so we had one of our friends over who has two kids of appropriate ages for playing with my oldest two. There was lego, dress-up and art. Whole-wheat macaroni and cheese and the currently ubiquitous grilled zucchini starred at dinner, with a lovely "eat dessert first" part played by my favourite chocolate cake recipe. I do like birthdays. (chocolate cake for breakfast the next morning is my favourite part).
Picked up a super soaker in the end of season sales. Best not to take myself too seriously, I always say.
Youngest one is beautiful, interactive, lively and doing all things baby-like that he should be doing (starting to sit up, rolling around the room, eating his sister's artwork). We rearranged the house to fix the fact that the living room was at the top of the stairs and contained a woodstove. It is now the dining room, and the living room has been moved to a more amenable room of the house. The breakfast light is spectacular now, since the table is in the western sun room. Makes morning easier, I find. Also, we made a little 'cafe' out of the corner of the new living room, to make up for the fact that there isn't one in town.
One of our friends stopped to visit for a few days on his way from California to Ontario, but since he wasn't going 'home' to anything in particular, he decided to live in our apartment for a few months. Changed his addresses officially, and then set off for points west to tie up loose ends.
I am continuing to nurture a 'temporary obsession' with food. If it lasts much longer, though, I may have to declare it a new interest. I have always had cookbooks; the change is my focus on food security and safety. It's more complicated than I might have thought (although everything is more complicated than it seems). I just wanted to know whether I should buy local or organic as a priority, and look where it gets me. Working my way through the public library's entire section on food, that's where! Read, read, read, read, read. Garden, garden, garden. Cook, cook, cook. Try not to grind my teeth when the cafeteria menu comes home from school.
Run to feed the baby before he starts REALLY yelling. Bye! |
